Q: Good afternoon. My name is Sebastian. I attended University in Romania Faculty of Engineering and graduated in 2007 speciality of Machine Building Technology.

I moved to Ireland three years ago hoping to find a job in my domain but I have been working as a HGV driver for a company in Dublin ever since.

Now I feel like its time to do the thing that I like and prepared for during University therefore I would very much appreciate if you could give some piece of advice about where to start from considering the fact that I have only three months experience working as a process engineer in an investment casting foundry (CIE Matricon Targu Mures) after graduation.

A: You should make contact with Engineers Ireland ( who would be able to advise you how to upskill to an Engineering position.

Given the slowdown in the economy especially in building and allied areas and civil engineering, you might find these areas difficult to obtain employment in.

However, you might want to consider the medical device industry which is almost recession-proof and in which there is actually a demand for qualified engineers.
