An Environmental Health & Safety Officer is required by CareerWise Recruitment for our Galway based client. The role of the EH&S Officer is to maintain and develop the Environment, Health & Safety Management System, and to maximize employee’s commitment and compliance to this system. Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring policies and procedures to ensure that the company meets and complies with all applicable regulations pertaining to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). This position will report to the Operations Manager
THE ROLE:
- To fully implement all EH&S policies and procedures and maintain ongoing compliance throughout the Company
- Apply company policies and procedures related to EHS by inspecting plant facilities to identify potential hazards, analysing operating records and reports, monitoring environmental indicators, responding to and documenting all inquiries regarding environmental or industrial hygiene issues, implementing corrective action where necessary, and ensuring that established procedures are followed correctly
- Conduct and document H&S Induction and to educate employees and new hires about safety policies, regulatory laws and practices, and the Company’s expectations around safety
- To contribute to the further development of the Site’s Safety Statement to include Hazard Identification; Hazard Risk Assessments, (i.e. Chemicals; Machine & Equipment; Facilities; Handling etc.) and Hazard Control Programmes and participate in their implementation). Including Preliminary Design Risk Assessment for introduction of newly designed machines
- To complete routine Environment, Health & Safety audits covering all areas of the Environment Health & Safety System, with prompt and effective follow up/close-out on all corrective actions defined
- To lead activities of the Health & Safety Committee, Fire Wardens, First Aiders, Risk Assessors & Emergency Response Teams
- Evaluate and document work-related accidents/incidents
- To create a positive and proactive culture around Environment Health & Safety encouraging active participation throughout th company.
- To provide clear and concise EH&S reports on a regular basis to Management
- Work with engineering staff to identify and evaluate potential manufacturing problems, suggestions for waste reduction, or deviations in (EHS) policies and make recommendations for corrections
- Able to work and build strong relationships with contractors from various backgrounds and trades
- Work closely with the facilities engineer on project management of facility projects and assist in day-to-day facility related activities when required
REQUIREMENTS:
- Level 8 Degree qualification required in EH&S or relevant discipline
- Ideally 3-5 years’ experience working within an EHS function in a Manufacturing Environment
- Experience in Digital document management systems would be a distinct advantage
- Knowledge of Safety Regulations and Standards; knowledge of plant maintenance PM schedule (desirable)
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment; the ability to identify potential hazards and assess risks
- The ability to educate and train employees on safety practices and procedures
- Skills in planning emergency responses to ensure preparedness for any incidents
- Strong communication, problem-solving and organisational skills
