Institute Secretary

 Chartered Accountants Ireland is the largest and longest established, all-island, professional accountancy body in Ireland, representing over 38,600 members, in more than 80 countries around the world and educating 7,000 students. It is a founding member of Chartered Accountants Worldwide, the international network of over one million chartered accountants, and the Institute plays a key role in the Global Accounting Alliance, Accountancy Europe and the International Federation of Accountants.

 The Institute is seeking to appoint an experienced professional for the role of Institute Secretary who reports to the Council, working closely with the President and the Chief Executive. The Institute Secretary plays a strategic advisory role to the Council, its various subcommittees and the Oversight Board in their key functions of governance and oversight of the Institute, in adherence with its Charter, Bye-Laws and Regulations, ensuring that the Institute continues to operate to the highest standards of governance.

 The Institute Secretary also plays a key role as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) to positively contribute to the production and delivery of Chartered Accountants Ireland strategic plan.

 KEY FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Leading the working relationships across the Council, Oversight Board, Subcommittees and SMT.
  •  Advising the Council on the implementation of strategy for the growth and development of the organisation in line with the governance set down in its Charter.
  • Ensuring the application of the highest standards of governance in the organisation particularly in Council and Boards to whom Council has delegated authority.
  • Engaging and building relationships with key internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Providing advice and support on constitution and legal matters across the organisation.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record as strategic advisor to senior leaders with a background in a professional services environment, working at a senior level across multiple stakeholder groups, with an in-depth understanding of governance.
