Commission for Aviation Regulation
Summary
The Commission for Aviation Regulation is an independent economic regulator
of the aviation and travel industry. The principal functions of the Commission
aim to promote a vibrant aviation sector and to protect the interests of air
passengers. Under Government policy, the Commission for Aviation Regulation
will be merged with the regulatory functions of the Irish Aviation Authority as
part of a planned re-structure. Air navigation service provision (including air
traffic control) will be separated out as a stand-alone entity. This will create
an overall sectoral regulator, responsible for safety, security, consumer affairs,
licensing/supervision of the travel trade and economic regulation of civil
aviation in the State.
