Distributive Control System DCS Engineer

Location: Alumina Refinery, Limerick, Europe

About the Company: Our client is a premier Refinery located in Limerick, Europe.

The Team: The refinery's success is supported by its advanced automation systems, including a comprehensive Distributed Control System (DCS), PLCs, Safety Control Systems, and specialized automation for on-site power generation.

The DCS Team plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient process control, supporting refinery operations and capital projects. This involves tuning, developing control strategies, and troubleshooting complex multi-variable control configurations.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An undergraduate degree in Chemical, Electrical, Automation, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 7 years of process or process controls engineering experience in the petrochemical or mineral refining industry.
  • Proven expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Process Control Infrastructure
    • PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell)
    • DCS (Honeywell and/or GE Mark VI preferred)
    • Cyber protection solutions
    • Data modeling in heavy industry
  • Excellent analytical and process control skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience with OSI-Soft or OPC Connectivity is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implementing minor adjustments to the existing DCS system, including process additions or changes.
  • Enhancing automation levels and optimizing the use of existing systems.
  • Collaborating with plant teams on activities such as process unit alarm management, defect elimination, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Management of Change (MOC).
  • Engaging in problem-solving, data modeling, and project management.
  • Future-proofing Process Controls Infrastructure (DCS, PLCs, advanced instrumentation).
  • Normal working hours are 8:00-16:30; however, the successful candidate will be on-call (after 12 months) for one week in four.
