Ireland plays an active role in the world and we make valuable contributions to international affairs through our involvement in multilateral organisations, such as the EU and the UN. The Department of Foreign Affairs' mission is to promote and protect the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people, at home and abroad.

The Department works to:

• Represent and advance Ireland’s policies and interests with other states and in international organisations, including the EU and the UN .
• Promote investment in Ireland and support Irish businesses to expand overseas .
• Promote Ireland as a tourism destination and promote Ireland’s culture abroad .
• Provide frontline consular and passport services to Irish citizens overseas .
• Engage with and support Irish communities abroad.
• Manage Ireland’s overseas development programmes in Ireland’s key partner countries - www.irishaid.ie
