Assistant Secretary, Corporate Affairs & Central Policy Coordination

The Department of Transport is involved in all aspects of the mobility of people and goods within Ireland, as well as access to and from our island nation. It helps the Government and Ministers to develop policies for Ireland’s transport system, gathering data and information and bringing it together into evidence-based policy advice, developing legislation to address policy change where needed.

The Corporate Affairs & Central Policy Coordination Division provides leadership on strategic planning and excellent governance. It is a key enabler in the successful delivery of the Department’s overall strategic goals, ensuring that the Department has sufficient capacity to deliver on business objectives, and that its people are supported to deliver their best in the public interest.

Reporting to the Secretary General, the Head of Corporate Affairs & Central Policy Coordination is responsible for a range of functions including Finance (with a budget of almost €4 billion available to the Department in 2025), Facilities, Human Resources, Corporate Services, Agency Governance, Communications, Legal Services, Risk and Reform.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a proven record of achievement at senior level that demonstrates the necessary vision, leadership and management skills;
  • Have a strong track record in senior management and governance roles with a proven high level of organisational skills;
  • Have expertise in driving and maintaining highest standards of financial management and governance compliance;
  • Demonstrate the capacity to contribute strategically to the overall leadership and future development of the Department;
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and people management skills, including the ability to network effectively and to influence a broad range of interests that impact on the sectors under the Department’s remit.

This is a Top Level Appointments Committee (TLAC) position.
