Chief Executive Officer
FSAI is a statutory, independent regulatory agency focused on protecting public health and consumer interests in food safety.
The overall mission of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland is to protect consumers and raise compliance through partnership, science and food law enforcement, and its vision is “safe and trustworthy food for everyone”.
As Ireland’s agri-food industry is the largest indigenous manufacturing sector and is of critical importance to the national economy, its success requires confidence and trust in the safety of food it produces. FSAI, as an independent state agency, underpins the credibility and performance of the regulatory system for the food industry in Ireland.
The FSAI are currently recruiting for a new Chief Executive Officer which is a vital role in ensuring the continued effectiveness of the Authority and in overseeing its strategy over the next 5 years.
Reporting to the Board of the FSAI, the CEO will have responsibility for:
• Strategic Leadership: Developing and implementing the FSAI’s strategic and operational plans, ensuring alignment with government policies and international standards.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Building and maintaining strong relationships with government departments, industry representatives, external bodies and other key stakeholders nationally and internationally.
• Regulatory Oversight: Ensure the provision and facilitation of expert advice and guidance on food safety legislation and regulations.
• Team Leadership: Developing and managing a high-performing team of professionals dedicated to food safety.
• Corporate Governance: Ensuring compliance with corporate governance standards and acting as the FSAI’s Accounting Officer.
The ideal candidate will have:
• 10 or more years of leadership and senior management experience, preferably within the scientific or food sectors.
• A strategic mindset and ability to successfully implement significant change initiatives.
• A comprehensive understanding of food control and evidence-based risk management policies, preferably with international experience.
• A proven track record of effectively communicating complex scientific issues to stakeholders and the public.
• A commitment to public service and a strong understanding of the Irish regulatory landscape.
