Livestock Booking Officer - Co. Offaly.
Based at the Co. Offaly plant, this role has responsibility for the planning, coordination and scheduling of the delivery of livestock to all sites (2) in line with production needs, ensuring compliance with relevant animal welfare legislation and requirements.
You will be reporting into the Livestock Procurement Manager, and the position is based in the Livestock Department of the company.
This role will engage with site production, lairage teams, hauliers and farms to ensure the smooth delivery of livestock to the plants. The role will involve building professional relationship with many individuals. The role will be working in a live logistic environment, requiring reaction to address issues and amend the plan to match day to day operations changes. The role requires someone who can plan and is extremely organised, good with figures but who has foresight and the ability to develop and implement solutions to get the plan back on track.
The nature of the roles requires good verbal communication skills including clear and concise communication by telephone as well so good computer skills with excel and in house systems.
Main Responsibilities:
- Schedule in all livestock available as advised by procurement.
- Schedule stock in accordance with weekly slaughter plan for both Co. Tipp and Co. Offaly to ensure each plant always has stock rested appropriately and available for slaughter.
- Allocate 30 min slots for hauliers to avoid over-crowding, welfare issues and excessive waiting time for trucks.
- Schedule stock in line with livestock health parameters.
- Deal with all livestock suppliers and their hauliers/representatives regarding scheduling.
- Confirm weekly bookings on each Friday.
- Manage bookings on a ‘live’ basis to deal with unforeseen circumstances or a change in the slaughter plan.
- Ensure all supplier herds are kept ‘in-test’ for the purposes of the Salmonella control programme and similarly for other welfare/Bord Bia schemes.
- Hold the position of livestock keeper for the organisation.
- Supply Co. Tipperary and Co. Offaly lairage and security each evening with an updated daily livestock supply plan following reconciliation of the kill each day.
- Manage the scheduling of livestock to ensure it is carried out in a cost-effective manner yet complying with the above criteria.
- Make recommendations to ensure an efficient running of this important function within the business.
