Chief Executive Louth County Council

County Louth, the smallest county in Ireland, spans an area of 826 km². Despite its size, it is densely populated, particularly in the urban centres of Dundalk and Drogheda. The county is strategically situated along the Dublin-Belfast Economic Corridor, benefiting from excellent infrastructure, including road, rail, and ports. This prime location, along with high-speed broadband and a skilled workforce, positions Louth well for future development.

The Council is mandated to deliver a diverse range of functions and services which can be broadly described under the headings of economic and community development, the provision of physical and social infrastructure, recreation and amenity services and the enforcement of the planning and environmental regulatory framework. The role of the County Council as provided for in law is to represent, lead and serve the communities of County Louth.

The Role

The Chief Executive has the lead role in developing and overseeing the organisational structures and resources needed to deliver an extensive range of services to the public. Paramount among the Chief Executive’s duties is to maximise the social, economic, cultural and physical development of County Louth to the benefit of communities and citizens throughout the county

The ideal candidate will have:

·       Identify and create a shared long-term vision for Louth that promotes the physical, social, cultural and economic environment in an integrated way;

·       Translate this vision into a strategy for the achievement of key organisational goals;

·       Communicate in a clear and convincing way, listening carefully to others and clarify information as required;

·       Drive and lead on the delivery of key priorities for the Council and local government sector, as a whole;

·       Network effectively with internal and external stakeholders, in particular, representatives of Government departments, colleagues in the City and County Management Association and other bodies;
