The National Rehabilitation University Hospital (NRH) provides Complex Specialist Rehabilitation services to patients who, as a result of an accident, illness or Injury, have acquired a physical or cognitive disability and require a specialist programme of rehabilitation. The NRH is a 120 bedded CARF accredited, tertiary referral hospital, and is the national centre of excellence for rehabilitation and an integral part of the National Trauma strategy.

Rehabilitation Programmes at the NRH are delivered through Consultant led rehabilitation teams and tailored to meet the individual needs of adult and paediatric patients in the following areas of specialty:

·       Acquired Brain Injury (including, traumatic, non-traumatic brain injury and other neurological conditions)

·       Stroke Specialty Programme

·       Spinal Cord System of Care (including, traumatic, non-traumatic spinal cord injury)

·       Prosthetic, Orthotic and Limb Absence Rehabilitation (POLAR)

·       Paediatric Family-Centred Rehabilitation

The NRH has undergone a major transformation of its services and facilities. Phase I of the New Hospital has resulted in a new state of the art development, the first purpose-designed rehabilitation facility to be built in Ireland and designed around patient’s needs. The NRH has ambitious plans to further develop and expand its services into the future with Phase 2 of the New Hospital. This phase will be dedicated to expansion and improvement of the facilities for existing therapies, clinical services and support facilities and a proposed increase in beds. Phase 3 will include a further increase in beds and service capacity of the hospital. These developments will greatly assist the NRH in meeting the additional demands that will be placed on the service as a result of the important role in the hospital will have in the delivery of the National Trauma Strategy. The appointee will play a central role in the continuing development of NRH and in assisting the hospital in meeting challenges and opportunities with the planned future expansions of its complex specialist rehabilitation services to adults and children in its six clinical programmes.

The NRH wishes to recruit a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and are seeking a dynamic, professional for the role. The successful candidate will lead the Executive Management Team and have responsibility for all aspects of executive, strategic, and operational management functions, to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the Hospital; and to advance the hospital’s goals in line with its vision, mission and values. 

The Chief Executive will take a lead role in driving forward the next exciting phase of the NRH’s ambitious development of its services, which includes Phase 2 of the New Hospital development.  Reporting to the Board, the CEO will lead out on the implementation of the Hospitals strategic plan and maintain a particular focus on strategic issues affecting the Hospital. 

The successful candidate will be a transformational leader with excellent communication and influencing skills, capable of creating and developing strategic relationships with stakeholders. A core feature of the role will be to build and nurture strong relationships at all levels both internally and externally, including state agencies such as the DOH, HSE and particularly the recently formed Regional Group; alongside partnerships with other Health Institutions, the voluntary sector and agencies that are instrumental in supporting us to deliver our national remit.  

Demonstrating a proven track record of exceptional performance is essential.

The salary scale for the post will be in line with Health Sector Consolidated Salary Scales. Remuneration for the post is in line with CEO Band H3 Hospitals. The current salary range, based on CEO Band H3 level (Grade Code 0073, as at 1st October 2024 is: €116,066,  - €136,621 per annum

REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate must possess:

·       A relevant 3rd level degree, and preferably a post graduate qualification in a discipline relevant to the general management in a Hospital or Healthcare setting.

·       A sound background in and knowledge of the Health Services Sector;

·       Senior Management experience of at least five years within a medium to large sized complex organisation in either the public or private sector. Ideally this experience would be in a healthcare environment and include experience of:

-       General / Clinical management and control.

-       Leading and developing a multi-disciplinary workforce.

-       Organisational design/development

-       Delivery of large-scale transformation / change projects

-       Future-focused with emphasis on innovation and technology
