Assistant Secretary Investigation, Prosecution and Frontier Management Division

Revenue, as the Irish Tax and Customs administration, plays a critical role in securing Ireland’s fiscal, social and economic foundations. Its mission is “to serve the community by fairly and efficiently collecting taxes and duties and implementing import and export controls.” It has a staff of just over 7,000 and deals with over 4 million personal and business customers. In 2024 over €150 billion gross was collected in taxes, duties and other charges.

The Assistant Secretary Investigation, Prosecution and Frontier Management Division is responsible for protecting society through the management of EU external borders, for ensuring overall supply chain safety and security, for the implementation of relevant national level prohibitions and restrictions and for leading Revenue's criminal investigation function. The Division is responsible for countering the activities of organised crime groups involved in serious tax and duty evasion and for the coordination and management of national and international law enforcement operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and directing the optimum alignment of Revenue’s policy and operational roles in relation to frontier management and combatting smuggling and illegal activity.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Have significant recent senior management experience, including leading and managing teams in a large and complex organisation.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of the Irish, EU and relevant international tax and duty legislative environment relating to offences and legal powers.
  • Have an up-to-date knowledge of and insights into how modern tax and duty administrations operate.
  • Have a demonstrable understanding or experience of the challenges of delivering successful investigation and referral for prosecution of criminal cases related to tax and duty offences and fraud and how those challenges can be effectively managed.
  • Have a knowledge of supply chain analysis, risk profiling and the development and dissemination of intelligence.
