Sanderson are partnering with a Semi State Body to recruit for a Commercial Controller on a permanent basis. Are you ready to make a significant impact on the group's commercial strategy? Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the Commercial Controller will be at the forefront of guiding the commercial initiatives with sharp financial acumen and strategic insight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with senior leadership to craft and execute strategic financial plans for our commercial business, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews and analyses of strategic initiatives, delivering actionable insights to drive profitability and achieve long-term objectives.
- Develop robust business cases for capital investments, conducting thorough investment appraisals.
- Utilise scenario planning and analysis to inform strategic decision-making processes.
- Perform in-depth financial analyses, including cost-benefit analysis, scenario modeling, and risk assessments.
- Create financial models to evaluate the impact of various business strategies and initiatives.
- Collaborate with finance team experts to review costs periodically and develop cost structures for tendering processes.
- Provide strategic financial insights to support decision-making for commercial contract tenders.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Work closely with department heads to establish realistic financial goals and monitor performance against budget.
- Drive energy usage planning initiatives to optimise resources and reduce costs.
- Proactively identify and communicate potential financial risks and opportunities.
- Evaluate, enhance, and implement financial systems to streamline processes and improve data accuracy.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior leadership and the Board, highlighting key insights, trends, and recommendations.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to the wider team.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Qualified Accountant with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.
- Previous experience in a similar role within the transport industry, a related field, or a semi-state environment.
- Proven expertise in strategic financial planning, financial modelling, and analysis.
- Familiarity with investment appraisal techniques and business case development.
- Ability to think strategically and translate financial data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel and PowerPoint for data analysis and presentation purposes.
- Knowledge of SAP or other large ERP systems for financial analysis and reporting.
