Deputy Editor, The Southern Star

An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Southern Star, one of Ireland’s leading local media businesses and West Cork’s favourite newspaper.

Candidates must have experience of editing at a local or national level with a background in reporting and have a good knowledge of the West Cork area.

Ideally, the candidate will have a journalism qualification and layout experience.

Key responsibilities:

• News and feature editing and writing & handling court reports
• Deputising for editor in their absence
• Managing reporting staff and commissioning staff and freelance copy and photography

Key skills and experience required

• Excellent written communication skills
• 3+ years of editing experience
• Digital publishing experience
• A passion for local news and publishing
• Preferable – some experience of page layout (e.g. InDesign)

We publish from our Skibbereen head office with hybrid/remote working possible for the right candidate.
