St. Joseph’s Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Fairview primarily serves the Dublin North East administrative area, having a total population of just over one million. This 12 bed unit also has a national remit and referrals from outside of the primary catchment area can be admitted at the discretion of the consultant. Referrals are accepted from community adult or child and adolescent mental health services of young people, currently 16 and 17 years of age, with moderate to severe and/or complex mental illness.
The Child and Adolescent Day Hospital caters for a younger age group and accepts referrals of young people, currently 12 to 17 years of age, from CHO 9 - Dublin North City and County (DNCC).
There is also a school on the grounds of St Vincent’s Hospital which is exclusive to children attending the day hospital and inpatient programmes.
