Senior Engineering Inspector- Roads and Greenways
Role, Duties and Responsibilities
The key areas of responsibility for this role are:
· To oversee delivery of the Annual Capital Programme of Roads, Active Travel and Greenways within assigned counties in the Region
· To assist in the setting up of structures, processes, and procedures to support the delivery of Roads, Active Travel and Greenway projects in the assigned counties.
· To actively promote the progression of the projects.
· Promote delivery in a sustainable manner consistent with TII’s and National policies and plans.
· Agree annual milestones with the local authorities and National Roads Offices for Regional Manager approval.
· Set up and attend at meetings, including steering meetings, technical meetings and Management Meetings as required to deliver programme milestones.
· Review and comment on all drafts of documents associated with Roads, Greenways and Active Travel schemes prior to submission of final draft to Regional Manager.
· Develop productive relationships and liaise with local authorities, elected representatives, National Roads Design Offices, and Consulting Engineers to ensure effective development and timely implementation of scheme concepts.
· Promote and monitor the delivery of assigned projects and report on progress as required.
· Advise project teams on the application of the TII procedures and standards as they apply to each individual project type.
Education & Experience
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate the key competencies for a Grade 1 position, as well as the following experience and job-specific requirements:
· Degree or third level professional qualification (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in Engineering.
· Be a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland, or be professionally registered at an equivalent level with an appropriate professional body, or be in a position to attain such registration within in a year of appointment to the position.
· Have a minimum of seven years’ experience (post NFQ Level 8 qualification) in civil engineering work in a responsible position.
· A strong track record of involvement in the delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects.
· In-depth knowledge of project governance and contract management.
· A good understanding of project appraisal, procurement and statutory processes and procedures.
· A good understanding of contract forms and road construction.
· Strong risk, financial, technical, contract, dispute resolution and stakeholder management capabilities and other capabilities as they relate to the Roads Capital Project department’s responsibilities.
· An ability to successfully lead a large multi-disciplinary team.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing skills.
· A strong commitment to public safety, to staff safety, and to the safety of those working on our behalf.
· A good understanding of, or the ability to quickly learn, the public sector working environment.
· Fluency in the English language, both written and oral.
· Currently hold and maintain a full driving licence.
